Description

The International Max Planck Research School for Condensed Matter Science (IMPRS-CMS) is a joint project of the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research and the University of Stuttgart. Stuttgart hosts an extraordinary array of research groups with a wide spectrum of expertise in fundamental condensed matter science. The concept of the research school is based on the premise that Ph.D. students can benefit from a forum that brings together the entire condensed matter community in Stuttgart. In addition to broadening the students' scientific horizon, specific synergies can develop if concepts and techniques are widely shared and jointly explored. The research activities can be summarized on five core areas: 1) Collective Phenomena, 2) Complex Materials, 3) Interfaces, 4) Nanoscience, and 5) Developing of experimental and theoretical Methods.

The IMPRS-CMS is an exciting, interdisciplinary PhD program that will motivate young scholars to choose a career in research. In addition to the structured program of scientific learning, a training program in complementary skills will be provided.
