The Departments of Microtechnology and Nanoscience and of Applied Physics focuses on research, innovation and education within the fields of future electronics, photonics, bio- and nanosystems. A close collaboration with Swedish and international partners within academy, industry and society enables scientific excellence and creates an innovative environment. In addition to 200 researchers and PhD students, MC2 houses a cleanroom for micro- and nanofabrication with the latest equipment.

Quantum transport in nanostructures is a topic with a strong focus at Chalmers, involving several departments and research groups in theoretical as well as experimental physics. The research group in which the position is offered was recently newly established at the Applied Quantum Physics Laboratory at MC2 and is to a large extend financed within the Wallenberg Academy Fellows program. We are working on charge, spin, and energy transport in interacting, nonequilibrium nanostructures, focussing on the response of these systems to time-dependent driving, which can be caused, e.g., by repeated switching or high-frequency irradiation. We have recently studied in detail the impact of Coulomb interaction on the current response due to different types of driving and revealed response times characteristic to the quantum system under consideration. Our current efforts are directed to the analysis of correlation functions, such as zero- and finite-frequency noise, as well as to energy-dependent transport in the context of thermoelectric or spincaloric effects. The post-doc position is offered in this research framework.  The project will be carried out in close collaboration with theoretical and experimental groups working in the field.

Major responsibilities
Your major responsibility as a PhD student is to perform research in a research group, while getting familiar with different theoretical approaches. The candidate is equally expected to develop competence in communicating his/her results in written and oral presentations. The position may at a later stage also include supervising master's  students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is a stepping stone for future research duties within academia as well as in industry or the public sector.

Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of four years.

Qualifications
To qualify as a PhD student, you must have a master's level degree corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits in physics.
