Uppsala University is an international research university focused on the development of science and education. Our most important assets are all the individuals who with their curiosity and their dedication makes Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting work places. Uppsala University has 41.000 students, 6,500 employees and a turnover of SEK 5,900 million.

Starting autumn 2014.

Research area: Materials development for lithium based batteries is an important and rapidly expanding research area and the project described below will focus on this interesting and very timely research area. The work will be carried out at the Department of Chemistry – Ångström Laboratory which has about 170 employees (of which approximately 80 are doctoral (PhD) students) and many visiting researchers.

Assignments: This PhD project aims at the development of new cellulose based materials for use as separators in the next generation of lithium based batteries with improved energy and power densities. The work will involve development and characterisation of different cellulose materials, studies of electrochemical reactions in lithium based batteries and tests of the performance of cellulose materials in lithium based batteries. In this work a range of advanced characterisation methods will be used to study the cellulose materials and electrochemical reactions. The research will be performed at the division of Inorganic Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry - Ångström Laboratory in collaboration with researchers at the division of Nanotechnology and Functional Materials, as well as other researchers and research groups at the Ångström Laboratory.

Qualification: The applicant is expected to have a Masters degree in Chemistry, Physics, Material Science or equivalent and experience of experimental work with cellulose and/or electrochemistry will be considered as a merit. The application should include a statement of research interest, CV, certificates of exams, degrees and grades, a copy of Master thesis, published article or relevant materials, if available. Contact information regarding of at least two reference persons should also be included.

The PhD position is for four years extendable to a maximum of five years including departmental duties at a level of at most 20% (typically teaching). Further information: http://www.teknat.uu.se .

Uppsala University is striving to achieve a more even gender balance and women are especially encouraged to apply.

For more information, please contact: Leif.Nyholm, Leif.Nyholm@kemi.uu.se or Maria Strømme, Maria.Stromme@angstrom.uu.se .

You are welcome to submit your application no later than 2014-07-04, UFV-PA 2014/1811. Use the link below to access the application form.
