PhD Student at Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research

We seek to hire a PhD student for investigating charge carrier dynamics on quantum dot sensitized solar cells.

Description

While quantum efficiency measurements on complete solar cell devices enable quantification of their global performance, such measurements are unable to disentangle the fundamental physical processes that ultimately limit device overall efficiency. Among them, carrier dynamics in the cells are a primary concern, but commonly, ultrafast spectroscopy is made on test best systems which deviate from real device operation conditions. In this PhD project, special emphasis will be placed on measuring and modeling critical kinetic processes triggered by QD photon absorption on complete solar cell architectures (electrode-QD-electrode) and under real device operation conditions (1 sun illumination). The student will obtain significant experience in ultrafast spectroscopy (particularly THz time domain spectroscopy), nanotechnology and photovoltaics. Any previous research experience on any of those topics will be positively evaluated.

The project will be held in Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research (MPIP – Mainz, Germany) and the duration of the project will be 3-years; if interested, please send your C.V., a letter of motivation, and a list of 3 references by email to Dr. Enrique Cánovas. canovas@mpip-mainz.mpg.de
