In close collaboration with the University of Luxembourg, the Centre de Recherche Public (CRP) - Gabriel Lippmann will organize its 10th edition of the PhD School "Nanoanalysis using finely focused ion and electron beams (Nanobeams) " from17th-21st November 2014 in Belvaux, Luxembourg. The following topics are addressed during the lectures and practical sessions:

· Introduction to “Nanoanalysis using finely focused ion and electron beams”
· Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (fundamentals, instrumentation and applications)
· Transmission Electron Microscopy (fundamentals, instrumentation and applications)
· Auger Electron Spectroscopy (fundamentals, instrumentation and applications)
· Introduction to charged particle optics
· Practical sessions on SIMS (Dynamic SIMS, Static SIMS, NanoSIMS), TEM and Auger Electron Spectroscopy

The format of the Nanobeams PhD School is based on both comprehensive theoretical courses and practical sessions on state of the art instruments. The targeted audience includes PhD students and post-doc researchers, as well as researchers and engineers from industry. Selections will be made on a first-come, first-served basis. The number of participants is limited to 30.

The registration fee is €250 per participant, including lectures and practical sessions, a course book with slides from lectures and lunches during the week. A number of grants are available for PhD students studying in developing countries. For more information on grant eligibility and how to apply, please see here.

For further information about the PhD School or to register, please see our website www.nanobeams.org and poster.

The CRP - Gabriel Lippmann is also organizing a 3-day Introduction to Plasma Techniques from 12th-14th November 2014. This course is free of charge. Interested Nanobeams participants are welcome to attend the course, which provides an introduction into plasma physics, plasma diagnostic techniques and several surface treatment techniques using cold plasmas, as well as demonstrations in the labs of the Centre de Recherche Public - Gabriel Lippmann.
