DTU Compute invites applications for a 3-year PhD position starting November 1, 2013 or later in the Section for Scientific Computing. The position is affiliated with the project Nano-Scale Design Tools for the Semiconductor Industry financed by the Danish National Advanced Technology Foundation, and it involves collaboration with QuantumWise A/S and DTU Nanotech.

Project Description
The overall goal of the project is to develop an atomic-scale device simulator that can compute the electrical characterization of a nano-scale device with 100,000 atoms, using large-scale algorithms and including heating/heat-transport in the simulations.

This PhD aims at developing new high-performance algorithms that will improve the capacity of the simulation tool beyond current state-of-the-art. The focus is on making the Green’s function calculations faster through a reduction of the complexity, e.g., by means of using scattering states as an alternative, or by using ideas from sparse approximations.

Requirements
Candidates must have an MSc degree in applied mathematics or physics, or equivalent academic qualifications, and must have a strong background in large-scale numerical computations. Good command of the English language is essential.

All applications must be submitted online through the homepage of DTU (Follow the link below).
