A PhD position (3 years) funded by DFG within a collaboration with a group in Tokyo is
available in the laser molecular spectroscopy group of Otto Dopfer at IOAP at TU Berlin.
The international and interdisciplinary project deals with the static and time-resolved IR
and UV laser spectroscopic, mass spectrometric and quantum chemical characterization of
solvated clusters of biological interest, such as neurotransmitters, amino acids, DNA bases,
and small proteins. A particular focus lies on the structure and real-time dynamics of the
hydration shell (biological/interfacial water). Experience in some of the following areas is
advantageous: molecular physics, laser spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, vacuum physics,
molecular beams, cluster science, data acquisition. Applications (cover letter, CV, statement of
research interests and qualifications) should be sent to Prof. Dopfer, Institut fĂĽr Optik und
Atomare Physik, TU Berlin, dopfer@physik.tu-berlin.de. Evaluation of applications will begin at
May 15 (2014) and continue until the position is filled.
