A three-year PhD scholarship is available in the Photonics Group
(Prof. F. Henneberger) in the Department of Physics at Humboldt
University of Berlin. The position is part of the International
Research Training Group "Dynamical Phenomena in Complex Networks:
Fundamentals and Applications" (IRTG 1740). This multidisciplinary
collaboration of German and Brazilian research groups is funded by
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft. For more information on the PhD
program and application procedure visit

The goal of this PhD project is to search for novel effects in the
dynamics of a new type of lasers, which consist of a network of light
scatterers in an optically pumped semiconductor chip. You will have
to run  a spectroscopic setup including excitation by pulsed lasers
and analysis by a streak camera with high temporal, spectral, and
spatial resolution. The samples are manufactured within in the
Photonics group, enabling you to implement your creative ideas in
designing lasing network structures. Your experimental efforts will
be accompanied by specific theoretical work in the Berlin and Sao
Paulo groups. More information on the Photonics Group is found on

http://photonik.physik.hu-berlin.de/index-en.php

Admission to the PhD program requires a Master or a Diploma degree in
physics, or their equivalent. As a scholarship holder you will
receive 1365 EUR/month, plus a research allowance of 103 EUR/month.

Informal enquiries concerning this scholarship can be made to Dr.
Hans-Juergen Wuensche (email: ede(a)physik.hu-berlin.de , webpage:
