PhD position, Gas-phase Spectroscopy (Berlin)

There is an opening for a PhD position (TVL, 65 %) for 3 years within the DFG (German Research Foundation) funded research project “Structure and reactivity of metal clusters of the platinum group”.

We use spectroscopic tools to investigate strongly bound clusters in the gas phase with the aim of elucidating their geometric (and electronic) structures. Our main goal is to obtain a fundamental understanding of the often unusual chemical properties of nano-scale materials. The student will make use of state-of-the-art molecular beam and laser spectroscopic techniques including photoelectron and photodissociation spectroscopies. Part of the work will be performed at the recently built infrared Free Electron Laser facility at the Fritz-Haber-Institute in Berlin-Dahlem.

Applications are welcome from candidates with a diploma or masters degree (or equivalent) in Physics, Chemistry or a related subject and with experiences in the fields of molecular spectroscopy, IR and UV lasers, mass spectrometry, and/or quantum chemical calculations.

If you need more details about the position or the application process please contact Dr. Andre Fielicke.
