The Cluster of Excellence 'Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden'
(cfaed) at TU Dresden offers a fixed-term

PhD or Postdoc Position (E 13 TV-L)

Topic:Silicon Nanowire System Integration
cfaed Investigators:Prof. Dr. Rene Schueffny
cfaed research area:Silicon Nanowire Path
Terms: starts at 01.10.2014, limited until 31.10.2017
The period of employment is governed by § 2 Fixed Term
Research Contracts Act (

Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz
- WissZeitVG).

Position and Requirements
Silicon Nanowires are a promising candidate for future integrated circuit technologies. On top of the more technological aspects of size, gate control, and process integration, the cfaed Silicon Nanowire path has developed double gate control for undoped silicon nanowires offering operational control of transistor polarity, which provides unparalleled means for fine-grained programmability and novel integration concepts.
Within a team of excellent researchers, the person on this position will cover aspects from devices to system design. He or she is expected to contribute to the development of compact device models, to design a set of elementary functional cells, and to prepare these to be used with state of-the-art integrated circuit design tools. The ultimate goal that should be completed within the project is to implement complex integrated systems from silicon nanowire devices and to demonstrate the specific advantages
of this technology at the system level.
The position is open to candidates from the fields of electrical engineering and information system technology, who can prove their extensive experience in complex logic circuit design and system integration. Additionally a
thorough understanding of compact device models in connection to device simulation and circuit simulation is essential. Likewise qualified expertise in standard cell development, design and characterization, as well as library development for advanced semicustom design tools is mandatory for this position. The candidate also should have a proven record of experience in
full-custom physical implementation of integrated circuits and semi-custom automated design tool flows.
We expect the following: a very good university degree (master or equivalent) or doctorate in electrical engineering, microelectronics or physics or related; outstanding academic performance in previous studies and some research experience; mobility; inter- and multidisciplinary thinking; high motivation and interest to join one of the most ambitious interdisciplinary research clusters; an integrative and cooperative personality with excellent
communication and social skills; fluency in English - written and oral
