Elaboration of mesostructured metal oxide@cellulose, metal oxide@carbon and ionosilica@cellulose materials for energy applications.

Description

This PhD project focuses on the elaboration of mesostructured metal oxide@cellulose, metal oxide@carbon and ionosilica@cellulose materials. The synthesis will take benefit of the templating effect of cellulose in combination with the utilization of ionic liquids. These latter systems are known to be efficient solvents of biopolymers. The originality of this project is related to the utilization of different types of functional ionic liquids, acting both as solvent for cellulose and as materials’ precursors. We will focus on the utilization of ionic liquids bearing silyl or vinyl groups, thus allowing the formation of assemblies via weak (H-bonds) or strong interactions (covalent bonds) with the cellulose support. We will take benefit of the diversity and the reactivity, of the nano-structuration and the morphology of biosourced polymers in order to access metal oxide and ionosilica phases displaying suitable characteristics for energy applications.
