PhD and Post-Doctoral Research Associate positions for ERC project on

Electrochemical and Nanorobotic biosensors

Various PhD and post-doctoral positions are available in the group “Smart Nano-Bio-Devices” at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, Stuttgart, to participate in the ERC-funded project “Lab-in-a-tube and Nanorobotic Biosensors”.

The multidisciplinary project aims for the development of new types of micro- and nano-scaled devices, either integrated into microchips or as self-propelled microswimmers. The project combines the engineering of such micro-devices, the design of the microfluidics, sample readout by different analytical methods, biofunctionalization and systematic analytical studies to evaluate the results.
The successful applicant will work on the experimental aspects related to the project. Therefore, the potential candidate should have a background in chemistry, engineering, physics, biotechnology or nanotechnology-related degree. Candidate should be enthusiastic for multidisciplinary and innovative topics such as nanomotors and nanobiotechnology where team members originate from biology, physics, chemistry and engineering. Previous experience in in specific topics of nanomotors and electrochemical biosensors as well as in clean room and thin film fabrication will be very positively considered. Knowledge of surface (bio) functionalization, electrochemical methods, biochemistry and toxicity assays is a plus.

The position are funded through a grant by the European Research Council for 3 years (PhD) or 1 year (postdoc) with possibility of extension, in line with the German public employment scheme.
For information or questions about scientific or technical aspects of the position please contact Dr. Samuel Sánchez (sanchez@is.mpg.de).

Applications including a full CV, list of publications, name of three references and the reference number 02.14. should be sent electronically to Ms. Ballmann (personal@vw.mpi-stuttgart.mpg.de).

Position open until filled. Preference will be given to applications received by February 10, 2014. The Max Planck Society is committed to employing more handicapped individuals and especially encourages them to apply. Furthermore the Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply.

If you prefer to send a hardcopy application, you may do so. Please address it to:
