A position as PhD Research Fellow in Centre for Nano Optics at the Department of Technology and Innovation is available as of September 1, 2014 for a three-year period.

The position is related to and supported by the European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant “Plasmon-based Functional and Quantum Nanophotonics (PLAQNAP)”.

The proposed project is concerned with theoretical studies and experimental investigations of coupling phenomena and resonant interactions between quantum emitters and surface plasmon excitations supported by various metal nanostructures that can advantageously be exploited for engineering of fluorescence spectra and lifetimes of single molecules in nanoscale quantum optics. Both fundamental and applied aspects of this research will be assessed from the perspectives of quantum plasmonics.

The project goals include the development of experimental and computational tools for quantum plasmonics, realization of strong coupling in plasmonic nanostructures and contribution to further progress in understanding of fundamental physical phenomena involved in light-matter interactions at nanoscale.

The successful applicant will be enrolled as a PhD student at the PhD School at the Faculty of Engineering within the Research Training Programme of Functional Materials and Nanotechnology.
