The Group of Electrochemical Nanoscience (wa.dcb.unibe.ch) at the University of Bern, Switzerland invites applications for a PhD position in the interdisciplinary field of electrochemistry and molecular electronics. The successful candidate will be integrated in the Marie Curie Initial Training Network "Molecular-scale electronics: Concepts, Contacts and Stability" (MOLESCO) as Early stage researcher (ESR).

Description

Molecular electronics is an emerging field of nanotechnology investigating properties and applications of molecules as potential building blocks of future electronic devices. We aim at locally exploring electron transport and switching processes of single molecules as well as of molecular assemblies employing concepts of “electrolyte gating” in an electrochemical environment, with the potential application to single-molecule switches and single-molecule sensor applications.

The ideal candidate holds an MSc or an equivalent degree in chemistry, physics or a related discipline with molecular electronics. He or she is curious to work in cutting-edge science projects, and has a strong experimental background in analytical and measuring techniques (Electrochemistry, STM, AFM). The candidate should be highly motivated, creative and fluent in English.

Interested candidates can send their application to PD. Dr. Peter Broekmann (peter.broekmann@dcb.unibe.ch) and Dr. Wenjing Hong (hong@dcb.unibe.ch) in the format of pdf with the key-word “MOLESCO”. The application shall include a motivation letter, a Curriculum Vitae (max. 2 pages) and the names and contact addresses of two persons willing to act as references. For more information, please send an e-mail to Dr. Wenjing Hong (hong@dcb.unibe.ch).
