The Academy of Finland Centre of Excellence in Computational Nanoscience (COMP) comprises over 100 researchers in eleven focused research groups. COMP’s research strategy is based on the development and application of advanced theoretical and computational methods for condensed-matter and materials physics and chemistry, especially in nanosciences and nanotechnology. COMP is hosted by the Department of Applied Physics at the School of Science in Aalto University and includes a group in the School of Chemical Technology and another at Tampere University of Technology. This vibrant environment provides research collaboration and exchange of ideas over a wide field, from materials research and applications to leading-edge theories and state-of-the art methods in condensed matter physics and computational science. Besides its own computer resources, COMP has access to large-scale, up-to-date parallel and GPU computing platforms provided by the School of Science and the Finnish IT Center for Science, CSC.

COMP is hiring multiple researchers in theoretical, computational, and experimental work in different condensed matter physics and materials modeling projects. Please click on the following links to view more detailed descriptions of the projects:

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Unless otherwise specified in individual project descriptions, successful candidates shall have or are close to having an MSc or PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Computer Science, or related disciplines. Knowledge of computational physics and chemistry methods, simulation software, or programming experience is also desirable. The standard contract periods are 4 years for PhD students and 2 years for post-doctoral researchers, with possibilities for extensions in the latter case. Typical gross salary ranges at the Aalto School of Science are €2400-2800/month for PhD students and €3400-3800/month for post-doctoral researchers. The contract includes Aalto University occupational health.

HOW TO APPLY

The call is open and the positions can be filled as soon as proper candidates are found. The deadline for each project is 31 January 2015. Please direct your application to the project (or projects) that interests you directly. Applications should consist of a scientific CV, publications list, the names of two references and, for PhD applicants, transcripts of studies. Applications should be made through the online form. Inquiries should be sent to: compjobs@list.aalto.fi.
