Comment by Dr.Rathinam Chandramohan on October 24, 2012 at 8:21pm Thanks for your interests Puneet Jain. Indeed surfaces play a significant role in the reactivity with the environment. The surfaces that are polished perfectly may reflect light like a mirror and is mirror polished and may have uniform morphology with out any pores like amorphous thin films. If the surface is made of grains which are constituted by the agglomeration of several crystallites the morphology various significantly and may not be reflecting similar to the perfectly polished surface. For certain applications like lotus leaf like surfaces the couse dentrite morphology is desirable. For absorbing applications porous and grainy morphology is prefered. Hence depending upon the applications we have to construct or design morphologies. Hope now its clear why morphology tailoring is of interest to many of us.
Comment by Puneet Jain on October 24, 2012 at 7:32pm Respectable Sir,
A very thanks for your this comment. May you please elaborate your answer. I am getting your point, but not upto the mark.
Please explain more. I shall be highly grateful.
Comment by Dr.Rathinam Chandramohan on October 24, 2012 at 7:02pm Morphology of the surface do contribute to chemical reactivity, absorption and scattering properties considerably. For example a surface with morphology resembling cualiflower like grains with pores are suited for photoelectrochemical performances in Cadmium chalcogenides.
Comment by Puneet Jain on October 24, 2012 at 8:04am could you please tell me how morphology of any material effects its properties?
Welcome! Nanopaprika was cooked up by Hungarian chemistry PhD student in 2007. The main idea was to create something more personal than the other nano networks already on the Internet. Community is open to everyone from post-doctorial researchers and professors to students everywhere.
There is only one important assumption: you have to be interested in nano!
