The thrust of Theory and Simulation of Nanoscale Phenomena at the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT), Los Alamos National Laboratory, has an immediate postdoctoral opening in the area of theoretical modeling and simulation of electronic structure, optical response, and transport properties in nanomaterials. This position provides an opportunity to pursue fundamental studies of optoelectronic properties in a variety of nanomaterials including organic and inorganic quantum dots and wires, conjugated polymers, carbon nanotubes, graphene, oxides, etc. The postdoctoral project will involve development and applications of solid state and electronic structure methods, numerical and analytical modeling of fundamental electronic processes on nanometer length scale, and assume an active collaboration with the experimental groups at CINT.

What You Need

Minimal Job requirements

The successful candidate must have a strong background in computational chemistry, condensed matter theory, and theoretical spectroscopy. However, ambitious candidates with a background in any one of them are encouraged to apply. The ability to work creatively and independently, as a part of a large diverse team, is very important. Strong communication and language skills, as evidenced by publications and cover letter are required.

Education: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Quantum Chemistry or Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics, or related discipline (completed within the last 5 years).

Where You Will Work

Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security.  LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.
