The Centre de Recherche Public – Gabriel Lippmann, a fast growing public establishment for applied scientific research and technology transfer, has an opening for an internship for its "Nanomaterials Unit" (UGN) of its "Science and Analysis of Materials" department (SAM) that focuses in the following fields: nanotechnologies and nanomaterials, smart functional materials, surface treatment and thin films, development of nano-analytical instrumentation and advanced characterization of materials for:

Master student internship in nanomaterials science (m/f)

Title: Decorative coatings for high temperature applications

Subject:

The proposed training subscribes within the framework of an industrial collaboration to address the development of advanced nanocomposite coatings for high temperature decorative applications. The goal of this project is to contribute to the establishment of protocols for the chemical vapour deposition of alumina-based plasmonic coatings with tailored optical properties. The project relies on the engineering of the size, spacing and composition of the embedded plasmonic nanoparticles.
The enrolled candidate will be involved in the further development of a technology that we have described in: (1) Angew. Chem. Int. Ed 47(2011) 9957-9960; and (2) Chem. Science 3(2012)929-94. The challenge is two-fold, first this approach will be extended to alumina matrix, and second the candidate will need to employ a 200mm wafer processing technology in clean-room environment as an important up scaling step.

Profile:

- Undergraduate student in the last year (Master2) in materials science or physical chemistry
- Good theoretical and experimental background in the synthesis and characterization of thin film materials
- Practical experience in the synthesis of functional materials from the gas phase (Chemical or physical vapour deposition) will be appreciated
- Fluency in English (spoken and written) is mandatory, French and German are a plus

Contact:

Candidates interested in the above internship can apply on our website: http://www.lippmann.lu The application file should include a CV, a motivation letter, the last diploma and marks obtained at the university.
