The Postholder will engage in research and collaboration on organic electronics and related applications, with a special emphasis on materials exhibiting an energy gap in the NIR region of the electromagnetic spectrum. More specifically the post-holder will investigate both the fundamental photophysics of such materials, and combination thereof, as well as their incorporation in devices such as (but not limited to) OLEDs, FETs, PVDs, and photodetectors.

Because of the nature of the funding (Marie-Curie initial training network (ITN) funded by the European Commission under Framework Programme 7) there are restrictions on eligibility. Specifically, candidates must not have resided or carried out their main activity in the UK for more than 12 months in the last 3 years. In addition, Early-Stage Researchers must (at the time of recruitment) be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of their research careers and not yet have a doctoral degree. This is measured from the date when they obtained the degree which would formally entitle them to embark on a doctorate, either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country in which the research training is provided, irrespective of whether or not a doctorate is envisaged.

The position, which is funded by the EU FP7 Marie Curie ITN OSNIRO, is for three years in the first instance.

Key Requirements

The successful candidate will have a BSc or equivalent in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or Physical Chemistry.  It is desirable that they also hold an MSc/MSci or equivalent in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or Physical Chemistry.
