Position:  Labs Supervisor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, SSE


Report to

:  Director of Nanotechnology Grad. Program 


Purpose

:  The job holder is responsible for providing the necessary support for faculty, students and external customers. This includes supervising the installation, operation and maintenance of the lab’s equipment, assisting in the procurement of equipment and spare parts, carrying out analysis of samples for external customers, training equipment users, supervising equipment operation, setting up and managing the equipment operation schedule.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Monitor daily work flow schedule equipment usage for undergraduate, graduate and the running projects
  • Provide the equipment users (undergraduates, graduates and researchers) with the necessary training for qualified safe operation of the lab facilities.
  • Prepares the necessary lab supplies in preparation for the undergraduate lab sessions
  • Assist in the installation and maintenance of the lab’s equipment in collaboration with the supplying agent
  • Handling trouble shooting equipment malfunctioning
  • Establishing contact with service engineers locally and internationally
  • Monitoring periodic maintenance processes and conducting periodic calibrations
  • Providing technical support for all lab users, including training and assisting internal users and conducting analysis for external users.
  • Setting up and managing the schedule of operation of equipment
  • Installing, testing and updating software packages and handling lab related IT issues
  • Ensures that all policies and procedures related to the lab and equipment usage are adhered to by all users
  • Responsible for the lab’s inventory and for ordering lab supplies
  • Responsible for user safety including handling emergency situations in coordination with AUC’s emergency department
  • Monitoring first-aid kits and fire-fighting equipment
  • Organizing safety training sessions for users and communicating with the security department in relation to any security breach situations
  • Assist in the development of lab manuals and procedures
  • Supervises and assigns tasks to the lab aid
  • Engineering Services: carries testing for industry conducts lab experiments and demonstrates in Eng. Serv. Courses and diplomas


Minimum education requirement

: B.Sc. in Engineering or Science


Experience:

  2+ years of experience (in similar field of work is an asset)

Skills:  

  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Good command of written and spoken English language
  • Trouble shooting and problem solving skills
  • Good IT skills
  • Experience in operating advanced processing and characterization of Polymers and ceramics equipment
