The Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia – IIT – was founded with the objective of promoting the country's technological development and further education in science and technology. In this sense, IIT is committed to achieving its scientific program, which it sees in the integration between basic scientific research and the development of technical applications, a major inspirational principle. The research areas cover areas of science of high innovative content, representing the most advanced frontiers of modern technology, with wide application possibilities in various fields, from medicine to industry, from computer science to robotics, life sciences, and nanobiotechnology.

For this research position, the candidate will be working on a challenging project covering the fields of chemical synthesis and transmission electron microscopy (TEM and related techniques (HRTEM, electron diffraction, analytical TEM techniques, electron tomography). The focus of the project will be the investigation of the structural, morphological and chemical transformations undergone by nanostructures following thermal, radiative or chemical stimuli. These transformation will be monitored both in-situ, combining high spatial and time resolution, and ex-situ (1-3). The overall objective is to correlate these transformations to kinetic and thermodynamic variables and eventually to develop new concepts of nanofabrication based on such transformations.

We offer a fellowship in Genova with competitive annual remuneration depending on the experience of the candidate.

We are seeking for a highly motivated candidate with background in at least one of the following fields: Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science.

Expertise in electron microscopy techniques will be additionally considered. The fellow will be in charge of designing and implementing experiments on transformations involving nanocrystals, in strict collaboration with chemists and materials scientists of the Nanochemistry group.

Interested candidates should send their CV with letters of recommendation to liberato.manna@iit.it and iulia.manolache@iit.it, before February 28, 2014 specifying always in the application’s subject REF 28 fellow transformation ERC.
