Fabrication of 2D polymers for electronic applications

The Cluster of Excellence 'Center for Advancing Electronics Dres-
den' (cfaed) at TU Dresden offers a fixed-term

PhD/Postdoc Position (E 13 TV-L)

Research area: Fabrication of 2D polymers for electronic applica-

tions
cfaed Investigators: Prof. Dr. Xinliang Feng
cfaed research path: Organic/Polymer Path
Terms: 100% of the fulltime weekly hours, the position is a 3
years appointment (with the option to be extended) and
starts asap.
The period of employment is governed by the Fixed

Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitver-

tragsgesetz - WissZeitVG).

Position and Requirements
We are in the process of starting a new Chair of Molecular Functional
Materials with the long-term vision of shaping the way future electronic

systems are to be programmed. Graphene and other 2D nanomaterials
have emerged as outstanding candidates for a great number of electron-
ic applications. The formation of heterostructures of graphene and other 2D nanomaterials further gives rise to unique optoelectronic properties.
The goal of this research is to prepare novel 2D polymers bearing elec-
tronic functions at the liquid-solid interface. The transfer of such 2D polymers on target substrate for device fabrications will be further targeted.
The successful candidate will: design and synthesis of molecular build-
ing blocks for the formation of 2D polymers; develop novel strategies
for the large-area fabrication of 2D polymers at the liquid solid interface;
fabricate electronic and optoelectronic devices based on 2D polymers
and graphene; help the Chair to organise the research projects. We aim

at attracting the best talent in the respective research fields and expect

the following: an outstanding university /PhD degree (master or equiva-
lent) in chemistry, physics, electronics, materials science or related field
of physical sciences; previous experience in thin film deposition pro-
cesses for soft-materials or fabrication of organic electronics devices;
prior experience with designing and assembly of small electromechani-
cal devices, ideally of thin film deposition prototypes and or similar small
prototype devices used in research is desirable; very good interpersonal

and communication skills; in particular, the ability to effectively work in
collaborative research efforts; an independent, target- and solution-

driven work attitude; inter- and multidisciplinary thinking; strong motivation and interest to join one of the most ambitious interdisciplinary research clusters; fluency in English - written and oral.

What we offer

You will join a team of enthusiastic scientists who creatively pursue
their individual research agenda inspired by the cluster's innovative approach and support. Your PhD-research will be fostered by the
cfaed philosophy to promote young researchers which includes: access
to state of the art research of leading academic institutes; individual
supervision by a Thesis Advisory Committee; possibility to earn (seed)
grants of up to € 10.000; promotion of gender equality and family-
friendly work environment.
Informal enquiries can be submitted to Dr. Uta Schneider, Tel +49 (351)

Complete applications should be submitted preferably by e-mail as a

single PDF-document quoting the reference number PhD1404_Z-MFM2
in the subject header to recruiting.cfaed@tu-dresden.de (Please note:
We are currently not able to receive electronically signed and encrypted data.) or alternatively by post to: TU Dresden, cfaed, A. Eichner, 01062 Dresden, Germany. The closing date for applications is 14.08.2014 (stamped arrival date of the university central mail service applies).

About cfaed
cfaed is a cluster of excellence within the German Excellence Initiative. It brings together 200 researchers from TU Dresden and ten other research institutions in the areas of Electrical and Computer
Engineering, Computer Science, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry,
Biology, and Mathematics. cfaed addresses the advancement of
electronic information processing systems through exploring new tech-
nologies which overcome the limits of today's predominant CMOS
technology. www.tu-dresden.de/cfaed
cfaed has initiated to create five new Professorships at TU Dresden to
further strengthen cfaed's research areas. These strategic positions are being filled with distinguished scientists to enhance the Cluster's research output and increase its international reputation. The Chair of Molecular Functional Materials is one of these new positions and will contribute to the Organic/Polymer Path.
About TU Dresden
The TU Dresden is among the top universities in Germany and Europe
and one of the eleven German universities that were identified as an
'elite university' in June 2012. As a modern full-status university with 14 departments it offers a wide academic range making it one of a very few in Germany.
