The National Graphene Institute is a new facility developed to establish the UK as a graphene research and technology ‘hub’ that will lead to the rapid commercialisation of graphene and 2D technologies in the UK.  The Institute is part of an overall investment, building on the strong, and rapidly-expanding, UK research in this field and aims to take this research through to commercial success.  The national institute, funded through EPSRC and ERDF, will offer access to specialist facilities and equipment including state-of-the-art cleanrooms which enable the simulation of manufacturing processes.  This world-class shared facility for graphene research and commercialisation activities will be accessible by both researchers and business.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day technical operations of the NGI Photolithography facilities and work alongside the Technical Facilities Manager / Cleanroom Manager and researchers to ensure that the lithography systems and processes remain appropriate and functional for all its users.

You will work with users from a variety of backgrounds to perform micro / nanofabrication of structures and devices incorporating graphene and other 2D materials.  This will include fabrication tasks including: vacuum deposition and etch, thermal processing, wet processing, metal deposition, reactive plasma etching and characterisation.

The University of Manchester values a diverse workforce and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
