Applications are sought for an Experimental Officer in Electron Microscopy to work within the NanoVision Centre, an interdiscplinary, multi-user electron microscopy and scanning probe microscopy research facility hosted by the School. The post-holder will be expected to provide a complete and professional microscopy support service for the School, including training, advice and guidance to staff and students on all aspects of analytical transmission and scanning electron microscopy. The research of the School is broad ranging and includes carbon based materials, organic and nanocomposite materials, natural materials and biological tissues. Within the NanoVision Centre, emphasis is placed on exploiting the synergies between the microscopy techniques employed in different disciplines to provide new approaches to materials investigation, including environmental and cryogenic methods, 3D imaging and correlative methods with X-ray tomography or confocal light microscopy.

The successful candidate will organise, run and maintain the NanoVision Centre and all other SEM microscopy facilities within the School, assist in the training of researchers and participate in laboratory teaching for undergraduate students in Electron Microscopy.

Essential requirements for this post are a degree in Materials Science or the Natural Sciences and a PhD in a related field. Substantial experience of running or working within a multi-user facility in a higher education or research environment is also essential.

The post is full-time and permanent. Salary will be in the range of £34,626-£40,738 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
