The Faculty of Biology/Chemistry of the University Osnabrück seeks two
Electron Microscopy Scientists
for establishing and operating a central facility for Electron Microscopy (EM), and the scientific advance of the EM facility.
The positions are to be filled at earliest convenience. Payment is according Germany pay scale E13 TV-L, full time. Contracts are initially fixed for 4 years, and extensions are anticipated.
Tasks:
The scientist on position EM1/2015 will be responsible for the maintenance and supervision of EM systems, guidance of users in experimental design, practical support of EM-based experiments, and analyses of data.
The scientist on position EM2/2015 is responsible for the scientific development of ultrastructural analyses, implementation of novel methods and instrumentation and correlation of light and electron microscopy analyses. This position will support academic teaching in BSc-, MSc- and PhD-courses of the Department.
Both coworkers are expected to work as team providing support in planning and execution of experiments, as well as in the quantitative analyses of ultrastructural data.
The research projects of DFG-funded Collaborative Research Center SFB 944 and the center CellNanOs are directed to the understanding of the physiology and dynamics of cellular microcompartments. Ultrastructural analyses shall contribute to the understanding of assembly and structure of microcompartments as organization units in cells below the size of organelles.
The EM unit is part of the central project of SFB944 and the Center of Cellular Nanoanalytics Osnabrück (CellNanOs). The central project established in the first phase of SFB944 provides state of the art light microscopy (LM), super-resolution microscopy and live cell imaging and will be extended towards ultrastructural analyses in the current phase. The Faculty of Biology/Chemistry operates two TEM systems and FIB-SEM in cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences. Further TEM/SEM instruments will be acquired for CellNanOS. By the end of 2016, LM and EM units will be housed in a new research building.
