The University of Alabama (UA) has a faculty position to be associated with its Center for Materials for Information Technology (MINT). The MINT Center is an interdisciplinary organization for materials research for information technology. Approximately 40 faculty members from the departments of physics, chemistry, metallurgical and materials engineering, chemical and biological engineering, electrical and computer engineering, and applied mathematics participate in MINT research. Its mission is to perform world-class research in materials and phenomena relevant to information technologies, to educate students in the applicable disciplines and to serve as a communication channel for the information technology industry.
Applicants should have a commitment to interdisciplinary research in materials. A PhD degree in physics, chemistry, materials science, metallurgy, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, applied mathematics or a closely related discipline is required. Successful candidates will be appointed to tenure track or tenured position in one of the participating departments and will be expected to teach and perform the duties of a faculty member in the department. Expertise is especially desired in the experimental field of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials or closely related, with preferred emphasis on nano/atomic scale materials fabrication and characterization, nano-device fabrication and computer aided materials design.
