Preliminary Information about NMP.2012.1.4-5 : Confidential call request:

Improving education in nanotechnologies to match the skill needs of EU industry and society

Technical content/scope: Conventional educational and academic disciplines often constrain the introduction of interdisciplinary courses and trans-disciplinary approaches that are necessary to nanotechnology. Overcoming such limitations is mandatory in order to educate highly skilled nano-scale scientists and engineers, whose scarcity is pinpointed by industry as a major obstacle to innovation. The multidisciplinary and multi-sectoral character of nanotechnologies requires developing novel forms of integration in the education systems, in order to prepare flexible and adaptable scientific and engineering pools of talent, while at the same time enhancing the necessary in-depth scientific background. This requires new frameworks of cooperation between schools, universities, research institutes and industry, as well as convergence of educational departments in nanotechnologies, biotechnologies, ICT, cognitive and other sciences, such as physics and chemistry (for example quantum mechanics and physical chemistry are fundamental to nanotechnology). Connection should also be made to social and business sciences. Special attention is required to encourage females to study nanotechnologies. The emphasis should be on graduate and post-graduate university level.

This Support action should provide:

  • mapping and critical assessment of best practices across the EU to identify enhanced integrated strategies for education in nanotechnologies;

  • - development of pilot teaching materials, lab activities and assessment tools as independent subjects or modules;
    - development of a platform for disseminating, testing and fine tuning of the strategies and the 'open courseware'.
    Funding Scheme: Coordination and Support Actions (supporting actions). No more than one supporting action will be funded.

  • Expected impact: (i) Promote the integration of nanotechnologies into the educational systems by favouring its responsible convergence with other sciences and stimulating the onfield cooperation of industry with educational and research bodies to respond to skill needs of industry and society. (ii) Contribute to making nanotechnology studies more attractive, thus increasing the numbers of students, especially female students.

Nano-Education in Europe Development . In Achronim (N.E.E.D. Proposal)

for the activity area “Cross-cutting and enabling R&D” includes the sub-topic: NMP.2012.1.4-5

 "Improving education in nanotechnologies to match the skill needs of EU industry and society – -supporting actions."

Dear potential partners and friends I would like to ask to you nto see the preliminary ideas to debate on the devevelopment of the project "NEED":

It will  be important to develop a proposal will be shared among the most active partners so that the answer to the supporting action to be successful.

I hope in your kind cooperation this because of one of the key priorities of Europe  is to develop an economy based on knowledge, innovation ofhigh tech. manufacturing in nano and also in bio knowledge economy

So that the NEED program would be expect to  develop activities able to focus a clear strategic innovation of advanced multi-disciplinary education to  realize a suppotuig  program that will be able to provide high added value in terms of R&D cooperation results in improving workforce skills.

As a matter of facts in this contemporarily context of socio-economic crisis  it  a vital "NEED" , to develop a very active NETWORK of nanotech plajers  in order to  organize a new collaborative paradigm on multi -disciplnary Nano-Education as a fundamental strategic importance to support the NMP- cooperation framework..

So that I ask to all potential partners to suggest their ideas about the better  strategy to reduce disciplinary barriers that limits the "open - innovation"  between academic research and industry to optimize the effective capabilities of advanced technological development located in the European countries , this can be useful expecially for allowing the SMEs  to take advantege to the nano-aplication to the production and market.

Many thanks for all that would to reply to me with concrete proposals. Very Cordially. Paolo Manzelli  25/SEPT/2011 FIRENZE

Improving education in nanotechnologies to match the skill needs of EU industry and society – -supporting actions.

Some ideas by: Paolo Manzelli ; President of EGOCREANET (*)

"Nanotechnology is an area which has highly promising prospects for turning fundamental research into successful innovations. Not only to boost the competitiveness of our industry but also to create new products that will make positive changes in the lives of our citizens, be it in medicine, environment, electronics or any other field."(European Commissioner for Science & Research, Janez Potočnik )

Objectives : The economic importance of nanoscience and nanotechnology has not yet been fully realized to ensure its transformation from a resource-intensive to a knowledge-intensive industry. Therefore it is a need to sustain a deep innovation in advanced nanoeducation in Europe, by generating step changes in knowledge and implementing decisive knowledge for new applications at the crossroads among different technologies and disciplines

The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, UNESCO Chair- on Education for Human Rights, Democracy and Peace. UNESCO/UNITWIN Award 2002. The Director Dr Dimitra

Papadoulou, Professor Emeritus, School of Psychology /AUTh has advised that the little girl from ancient Athens will be “christened” Myrtis and Themis at a ceremony on the 21st of September

2011 The International Day of Peace.

Dr Padadoulou also wrote, Besides all of us who serve the UNESCO Chair (Academics, teachers, students etc.), work with the hope that one day, the secret of the little girl from Athens will one day

influence the minds of men and women and will become a reality. This is the reason we all loved the Little Girl from Athens so much. We would like to thank Prof. Robert Pope for his inspired story.

The story will be highlighted in our 'Historical' book about the pioneering of the great nano-scale quantum biology adventure unfolding before us in our time.

Regards to all, Robert Pope.

The Science-Art Centre is constructing a Social Cradle New Renaissance book to support the fundamental ethics of relevant medical nano-scale research. In order to bridge Sir C P Snow's widening gulf between the culture of science and art, a once upon a time child's story had been written, requiringa mythical little girl to be officially given a name,to provide credence that Professor Manzelli's new quantum entanglement paradym might become psychologically feasible. A UNESCO world peace organisationhas advide it will officially give the little girl her name. The Centre will provide details of this remarkable event in due course.

 The relevant importance and benefits of nano-scale technology can be readily understood more deeply so that it is a need an education open to creativity . As matter of facts nano e bio-technology need to develop completely new trans-disciplinary approaches of research in education to undestand the auto-organization of matter at nanoscale based upon  the self-assembly of entangled quantum-particles that permits to change the relationschips between Matter & Energy and  as a consequence to develop new properties of  structured materials.Therefore there  will be  much future implications of nanotechnology if the educational approach will be no more a repetition of the old mechanical approach of traditional science. Comment by Professor Robert Pope on September 16, 2011 at 2:28am

Professor Paolo Manzelli's call for a new paradigm in education that embraces nano-scale reality is very important within the Humanities. Unless the closed entropic social world view can anticipate pragmatic benefits from nano-scale technology, functioning within an open dynamical universal system then the  Kantian electromagnetic Ethic cannot be envisaged. For example, the present global starvation will be considered an inevitable act of nature, in which nano-scale solutions can only become a fanciful aesthetic optimism.

Persons within the Australian node of the United Nations Millennium Project's Future Studies & Development has suggested that the Chinese Node in Beijing may appreciate that their ethical objectives cannot be realised unless the relevant importance and benefits of nano-scale technology can be readily understood by the lay person.

The Science-Art Research of Australia is now seeking legal opinion about the status of Moral Jurisprudence Law which appears to have been constructed upon Kantian Aesthetics , art appreciation theory, lacking the electromagnetic ethics belonging to Immanuel Kant and Oersted.

The Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy lists Immanuel Kant “as one of the most influential philosophers in the history of Western philosophy. His contributions to metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, and aesthetics have had a profound impact on almost every philosophical movement that followed him”. Obviously, this “impact” was not adequate to any pragmatic comprehension of nano-scale technology.
