Spingate is a US company working on magnetic memory (MRAM) designs and IP. The company says they are advancing their new pS-MRAM technology (based on spin induced switching and perpendicular magnetic materials). According to Spingate this new technology will be competitive in performance and price/bit with all existing memory technologies including DRAM and NAND flash. The company is already working on a 4Gbit chip design.… Continue

We seek to recruit a PhD student in the field of scanning probe control of single molecules supervised by Dr Peter A. Sloan of the Nanoscience group and the Centre for Graphene Science at the University of Bath.
The ability of the scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) to control matter at the atomic level has led to the building of atomic scale structures from the bottom by 'simply' pushing the atoms or molecules across a surface. The STM can also manipulate molecules through… Continue

Phyisicists created atom-thin sheets of silicon - and named the new material Silicene. The idea to create such sheets from Silicon emerged in 2007 - even though silicon doesn't naturally form the required atomic bonds. Silicene has a similar pattern to Graphene and possibly has the same electronic properties and might have advantages of Graphene because silicon is more integrateable into today's electronic devices.… Continue

Ion bombardment of solid surfaces often results in the development of highly periodic nanopatterns such as nanodots and ripple-like structures. Their characteristic features (orientation, periodicity, etc.) depend strongly on the material being bombarded and the ion-beam parameters (energy, angle of incidence, ion current density). Generally, these phenomena are believed to be related to (and caused by) the interplay between ion erosion and diffusion of adatoms (vacancies) which induces a… Continue
