Second NanoImpactNet Conference - Lausanne 2010 at University Hospital of Lausanne (CHUV), Switzerland

Thumbnail
March 10, 2010 to March 12, 2010
NanoImpactNet's second integrating conference, “For a healthy environment in a future with nanotechnology”, to be held in Lausanne, from Wednesday 10 to Friday 12 March 2010. Information on the preliminary programme is available on: http://www.nanoimpactnet.eu/object_binary/o3051_Programme_NanoImpactNet_Conf2010.pdfThe call for abstracts is open for important sessions on the interaction of nanomaterials with biological, environmental and physical barriers, quality control in nanomaterial research, and tools for impact assessment. Information on abstract submission and registration for the conference is available on: http://www.nanoimpactnet.eu/object_class/nano_lausanne2010conference.htmlThere will also be a session on the emerging theme of nanomaterials and technology in the food industry, to which all stakeholders will be invited, from academia, industry, regulators and civil society. Participants also have the possibility of suggesting their own sessions. The first NanoImpactNet conference earlier this year welcomed 200 participants; we expect more that 300 in 2010.NanoImpactNet is the European network on the health and environmental impact of nanomaterials. NanoImpactNet’s nucleus is a consortium of twenty-four of Europe’s leading academic and government laboratories working on nano-toxicology and nano-ecotoxicology. It is a European Commission FP7 coordination actionSee More

First Nanosafety Autumn School at Venice, Italy

Thumbnail
November 16, 2009 to November 20, 2009
The increasing use of engineered nanomaterials, especially nanoparticles (NP), in various applications will likely lead to a significant exposure to these new materials. Over 500 NP-based consumer products are already marketed, such as sunscreens and cosmetics, detergents, pigments, tires, lubricants and healthcare/medical application products. There is an urgent need to assess the potential hazard and then the potential health risk posed by these new materials. This has initiated an integrated approach including advanced physico-chemical characterization, exposure and (eco)toxicology assessment to overcome the current limitations in their risk estimation. The 1st Nanosafety Autumn School will provide the "state-of-the-art" on scientific knowledge and technical tools available for an integrated assessment of nanotechnology products. The school will offer an interactive learning environment in which participants will use a combination of approaches to update their skills and to discuss current issues pertaining to human and environmental nanotechnology. The First Nanosafety Autumn School is principally designed for personnel from Industry, Governmental Agencies, Hospital Departments, Research and Academic Institutions. The School is aimed at people who work on safety issues and epidemiology, as well as senior and junior researchers, post-graduates, Ph.D. students and in fact anyone dealing with nanosciences, nanotechnologies and related topics with an interest in Human and Environmental Safety.See More

NanoAfrica is a new TINC group for all people interested in the developments and applications of nanotechnology in Africa. I’d like to invite you to join at http://www.nanopaprika.eu/group/nanoafrica and to post a description of your institution as well as your research focus and application areas. This will help inform an annual report on the region to be published in June at www.icpc-nanonet.org and increase the impact of your research as well as extend its reach.

The ICPC Nanonet project (EU funded under FP7) is aimed at networking nanoscientists and researchers across the globe to help bridge the nano divide and avoid a knowledge apartheid.

It offers a free open access Nano Archive of nearly 7,000 items including many full texts at http://www.nanoarchive.org. Please contact me if you would like to archive your research and I will create an editor's account for you.

You can join the international network at http://www.icpc-nanonet.org. Registration is free. The website also contains information for parties interested in FP7 collaboration, details of free webinars taking place (three in September), information about researchers and organisations and much more.

I am also interested in communicating with researchers in sub-Saharan Africa for the annual region report. If you would like your institution's research showcased in the report, please get in touch

Welcome

Welcome! Nanopaprika was cooked up by Hungarian chemistry PhD student in 2007. The main idea was to create something more personal than the other nano networks already on the Internet. Community is open to everyone from post-doctorial researchers and professors to students everywhere.

There is only one important assumption: you have to be interested in nano!

Dr. András Paszternák, founder of Nanopaprika
