My research field or area of interest innanotechnology
My research (PhD programme) group is currently investigating on biodegradable nanoparticles recruited for targeted delivery of antimalarials, anticancerous pharmaceutical agents and Nutraceuticals, and their toxicity related aspects. Another research (MPhil programme) group was involved in nanotoxicology area entitled “Potential impact of some Nanoferrofluids exposure in mice liver cells, somatic and germ cells”. Currently we are engaged in synthesizing novel biodegradable nanoparticles using synthetic and natural ingredients for their toxicological assays. We are also actively investigating the pathways of cellular uptake of nanoparticles, and their intracellular trafficking and sorting mechanisms in different cellular compartments.
Research experience that I have gained from doctoral work from Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore and work from Institute of Food Research, Norwich UK and Kansas State University, USA allowed me to work on protective role of nutraceuticals in infectious disease and malaria research. This helped me undertake another project entitled “Developing Technical R &D Processes to Scale-up Flaxseed Value-Added Products Using Nanotechnology for Economic Empowerment of Semi-Urban and Rural Population”. This emphasizes on optimizing methodologies for flaxseed fractionation and newest technologies such as Nanotechnology in designing Nanolaminates for endosperm (new concept), Nanofilters for Lignans syrup (new concept), and Nanocapsules for Lignans and Nanoemulsion for Omega-3s enriched nutrient delivery systems (new concept).
The project would involve rural population, scientists from both Nanotechnology and Food processing expertise. In our Karnataka State, a basic education in application of technologies and processing of value-added food products with future scope of application in health food, nutrients and certainly impact on alleviation of poverty among the target population such as Women, Scheduled Caste /Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST), semi-Urban and the Rural Community by creating employment opportunities and addressing the economic empowerment. I am optimistic that this Technology and Employment Based Research Project Proposal prepared with a view of the present national priorities and future needs of our country would certainly be considered for funding.
Currently, we are working on the project funded by DBT, involves Nanotechnology in Agriculture, an emerging area of research entitled “Studies on Alternative Systems to Deliver Antianaplasmosis Agents in Therapy”. The problem addresses the population falls below the poverty line and again a substantial number of them fall in the poorest category. The sufferings of target groups such as Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) small and marginal farmers of many villages in the country will have sleepless nights as virulent diseases such as Anaplasmosis affecting their cattle and claimed lives of many during the episode. The project would involve scientists from both nanotechnology and Agrobiotechnology expertise. This unique concept proposal addresses the diseased domestic animals and sufferings of rural farmers that adversely affect the agricultural farming. In our University, an education within this field is going to be in great demand to help with employment opportunities in the agriculture, business sector and at scientific institutions.
