May I know why only Semiconductor Nanoparticles are called Quantum Dots

Because  these semiconducting nano particles have specific property to substantiate  the  electron confinement in all three dimensions. Obviously if u are going to study the Quantum mechanics through nanotechnology, a electronic characteristic play a significant role in semiconducting material.
