SUMMARY:First Nanosafety Autumn School
DESCRIPTION:The increasing use of engineered nanomaterials, especially
  nanoparticles (NP), in various applications will likely lead to a sig
 nificant exposure to these new materials. Over 500 NP-based consumer p
 roducts are already marketed, such as sunscreens and cosmetics, deterg
 ents, pigments, tires, lubricants and healthcare/medical application p
 roducts. There is an urgent need to assess the potential hazard and th
 en the potential health risk posed by these new materials. This has in
 itiated an integrated approach including advanced physico-chemical cha
 racterization, exposure and (eco)toxicology assessment to overcome the
  current limitations in their risk estimation. The 1st Nanosafety Autu
 mn School will provide the \"state-of-the-art\" on scientific knowledg
 e and technical tools available for an integrated assessment of nanote
 chnology products. The school will offer an interactive learning envir
 onment in which participants will use a combination of approaches to u
 pdate their skills and to discuss current issues pertaining to human a
 nd environmental nanotechnology.\n\nThe First Nanosafety Autumn School
  is principally designed for personnel from Industry, Governmental Age
 ncies, Hospital Departments, Research and Academic Institutions. The S
 chool is aimed at people who work on safety issues and epidemiology, a
 s well as senior and junior researchers, post-graduates, Ph.D. student
 s and in fact anyone dealing with nanosciences, nanotechnologies and r
